A tough hydrangea that is not too demanding about soil or aspect, certainly one of the best for drier soils and for heavy shade. Flowers on current years growth so no danger of flower loss from late frost. If left unpruned it becomes a large shrub and the size of the flower heads though still impressive reduces. Cut back hard in late February and it will make a smaller shrub with the huge flower heads for which it is noted.
