Collected at 3,200m in E. Nepal by Major Tom Spring-Smyth in 1962 . This mountain form is very hardy, though it can be troublesome to establish, especially in mild coastal gardens. Naturally deciduous, rather than loosing its leaves through harsh weather as in other forms,  it seems to appreciates a proper winter  dormancy. Best on fertile soils and in a sunny or lightly shaded location. Powerful, sweetly fragrant flowers open through February into early March.
